Tonight (I'm F*cking You) [Feat. Ludacris & DJ Frank E] - Enrique Iglesias

Since I don't spend all that much time listening to the radio, I don't post much Top 40-style music, but this song is (obviously) an exception. EDM took over in 2010, and pop producers have noticed; the dutch house sound of "Tonight" is becoming almost too common to hear blasting from your car radio. For a radio cut, this song sure can get a dance floor moving though, mainly because this is one of those tracks that girls absolutely LOVE.  Play it loud, and they will go nuts. Totally and completely nuts. Give it a try at your next party and tell me I'm wrong.

VIDEO! - Hot As Hell - Drop The Lime

I wish I had the original mix of this to drop on you in all of it's 320 kbps glory, but as of now, all that Drop the Lime has released are a few remixes and a low-fi club edit. I believe this is the first time I've ever heard a harmonica drop in song, but somehow it works. In fact, it does more than work, it sounds really, really good.

The Freeizm Album - Skream

Lot's of groups seem to be jumping on the free album train for Christmas (anybody heard the new Gorillaz album?), which I have absolutely no problem with. In the past, I haven't been a big Skream fan, his work is usually too dark and minimalist for me. There's always room for second chances when it comes to music though; the UK producer just dropped a free album, aptly titled "The Freeizm Album", and I'm loving it. "Emotional Shizzle", "Skwelcha", and "Cold Outside" are my favorites, so make sure to give those a listen.

Tracklist and download after the jump.

Skrillex

First, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas yesterday! Now on to some new music.

If you read any music blog that even pretends to follow electronic music, you've most likely heard of Skrillex recently. The screamo band frontman turned electronic artist has been taking the EDM world by storm. His rise has been quick; he has just finished opening for Deadmau5 on his latest tour after only releasing his debut EP early this year. At one point in the near past, he held 8 of the top 10 spots on Beatport, a feat no artist had ever before accomplished.

The only way I can describe these next two songs: mind destroyers. Brace yourself.

American Life - First Rate People

All though it's not my usual cup of tea, this for some reason, I've been pretty obsessed with this song lately. Love the violin, and piano-driven songs have always been a favorite of mine. Also, I absolutely LOVE the voice of the female singer; her voice reminds of a walk on a gorgeous, sunny day; I get butterflies every time I hear it. This is beautiful, simple pop music at its best.

Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager (Album) - KiD CuDi

One of of the best album covers of the year. Just putting that out there. At first I didn't like this album all that much, but it's grown on me. I've really taken a shine to "Mr. Rager" and "Scott Mescudi Vs. The World". My two favorite tracks however, are his stoner anthem "Marijuana", and his collaboration with GLC and Chip Tha Rip, "The End". Some great sampling on that second one; it has that classic, golden era hip hop feel to its groove.

Hardcore Days & Softcore Nights - Aqueduct

Unfortunately, my sister used to love watching the prime time soap opera that was The OC. Seriously, that show was horrible. The one positive thing that came from it though was that it had a great soundtrack. One of the episodes my sister watched had this song in it, and it caught my ear. The percussion on this song is great. The drums are super catchy (they almost sound like a loop) and there's some xylophone near the end which works really well with them. This is one of those infectious songs that instantly puts you in a good mood.

Is There A Ghost - Band of Horses

"Is There A Ghost" is off of Band of Horses' 2007 album Cease to Begin. I was lucky enough to catch the group at Sasquatch Music Festival last year, and this song was one of the highlights of their set. The lyrics are simple and haunting, and the way this song builds reminds me of another of my favorite groups, Explosions in the Sky.

Flute Loop - Beastie Boys

If you've never been to an OMSI Light Show, I highly suggest you change that in the near future. They are a lot of fun, and I first heard this song when I went to an electronica show a few years back. Off their 1994 album Ill Communication, this track is a short one, clocking in at a little under 2 minutes. Producers use them sparingly, so a good flute sample is always nice to hear in a hip hop song.

One of Us is Gonna Die Young - The Ark

The snowboard video Picture This is pretty epic. Part of the reason for this is its soundtrack, which includes "One of Us is Gonna Die Young" by a Swedish group named The Ark. This song is perfect for flying down the mountain without a care in the world. Love the upbeat tempo, and the accented hand claps.

Friday Night Lights (Mixtape) - J. Cole

UPDATE:

Pick up the mixtape from J. Cole's official website.

I also deleted "Blow Up" as a downloadable track since it's not actually off this mixtape. I'd repost, but I'd get another DMCA notice. So go find it somewhere else, it's one of the best songs I've heard all year.

J. Cole has been absolutely killing it in 2010. Undoubtedly my favorite rapper right now, everything he touches turns to gold. He does most of his own production, and then lays amazing verses over it.

Here's a track from his newest mixtape (it took me forever to decide which one to put up; they're all so good):

In The Morning (Feat. Drake) - J. Cole

And here's the rest of the tape. I know you'll make the right decision and DL the whole thing:

Strobe (Mr. Carmack's Dubstep Remix) - Deadmau5

My favorite Deadmau5 song, with one of the greatest synth lines of all time. Dubstep, the genre I can't seem to get enough of lately. Combine the two, and you have one of the best songs I've found all year. Interestingly, this guy Mr. Carmack has a style that sounds quite similar to Mau5's newest single "Raise Your Weapon". Play this one loud.

Oh What A Night (Chuckie Remix) [Feat. Claude Kelly] - Lil' Jon

STRAIGHT BANGER. I really don't have anything to say about this song other than that it has been my go-to banger for the past 4 months. Drop this when your party is at its peak, and you won't be disappointed. Shit is bananas.

Lemonade (Heroes+Villains Remix) - Gucci Mane

UPDATE PT. II:

Another DMCA notice, so I had to remove the link to the La Roux/Major Lazer track. Luckily, you can still find it here on the original Lazerproof Mixtape.

UPDATE:

Had to redo this post because of a damn DMCA notice. While I was trying to repost it, it got deleted and I'm too lazy to redo the entire thing.

Summary: Found this originally at the end of my favorite song off of Major Lazer & La Roux's Lazerproof mixtape. Yes, "Lemonade" has been played/remixed/freestyled over too many times, but this version has stayed fresh for me.

Radiohead: RainyDayz Remixes (Mixtape) - AmpLive

I picked this gem up a couple years ago when I was really into Zion I. AmpLive has used sample material taken entirely from Radiohead's In Rainbows album to create a great remix album. His production is complemented by vocal work from a whole bunch of dudes, including Too $hort, Zumbi, Del, Chali 2na, and Codany Holiday. Grad the whole tape RIGHT HERE.

Looking For Trouble (Feat. Pusha T, Big Sean, CyHi Da Prince & J. Cole) - Kanye West

J. Cole, Pusha T, Big Sean, Cyhi Da Prince. Kanye West. All my favorite rappers at the moment. All on one track. Every single one of them kills it. This is song is part of Kanye's G.O.O.D. Friday series. God damn Kanye, keep it up.

Mouthful of Diamonds - Phantogram

I saw Phantogram last year at Eugene's Willamette Valley Music Festival, before I had any idea who they were. This song really captured my attention when they played it, and I did some searching around online to find it. A great track to just lie in bed and contemplate whatever may be on your mind.

When I Dip (Dillon Francis AIRHORN Remix) - Bingo Players

I've been bumpin' this for days. An amazing dubstep remix of the Bingo Player's "When I Dip", Francis pulled the sample right before the drop from Freak Nasty's "Da Dip", a favorite of mine. Try listening to this and not nodding your head along with the beat. I dare you.

Like Liquor For Punks (Mixtape) - Heartbeat Da Producer

This is a tape I discovered way back in the day. Haven't heard much else from Heartbeat Da Producer, but on Like Liquor For Punks, he does a great job. At first I was apprehensive, because although I love Daft Punk, Common, and Lupe, I wasn't sure if they'd sound good all mashed together. Heartbeat makes it work though; Common and Lupe's rhymes sound really good over Daft's instrumentals.

Hurt - Johnny Cash

Originally a NIN song, Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" has been lauded by many as one of the best songs of the decade, which I wholeheartedly agree with. It's a powerful and haunting song, recorded right before Cash's death. It gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

Hurt - Johnny Cash

The video also won quite a few awards. Takes the song to a whole other level seeing Cash at his frailest, only a few months before his death:

Fire Flame (Remix) [Feat. Lil Wayne] - Birdman

Yes, Birdman blows. I have a soft spot for bangers that sound good on a nice system though, and that's exactly what this is. It's also good to hear Wayne spitting some fire on his verses again.

If you got problems with I, well I will fix them cataracts / They say it cost to be the boss / I paid the price including tax / Bitch I’m a fire flame spitter / And to me you niggas wax

Wildstyle EP - Bassnectar

Bassnectar's new Wildstyle EP sees him returning to a more experimental bass sound. The track "Falling" is some good 'ol dubstep though, and "The 808 Track" is an homage to the drum machine of choice for many producers (and the beat on this one is fire).

Falling (Feat. Paper Machete) - Bassnectar

The 808 Track (Feat. Mighty High Coup) - Bassnectar

If you arent' already planning on going to his show at the McDonald Theater in Eugene on Febuary 3rd, you should SERIOUSLY reconsider. Maybe this will change your mind...

Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub) - Bon Iver

No  more long winded posts. No more long artist bios. Just a dope song and a few sentences. I'm working on redesigning the blog, so bear with me.

This song is a great version of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love". The original is powerful in its simplicity, and Das Kapital realizes this in its remix by adding in a very simple beat that doesn't over power the acoustic guitar or Vernon's voice.
