Video!: Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill (Live Lounge Radio)

Another live, acoustic version of a song I love for you guys. For the past term, "On Melancholy Hill" has been my all-weather jam. I play it when I'm getting ready to go out, when I'm upset, or while I'm cooking dinner; it fits any occasion. The acoustic version strips down the original, getting rid of the catchy synths and replaces them with a xylophone, or maybe glockenspiel... Shit, maybe I should have paid attention in 5th grade music class. The guitar sounds raw and Alborn's wistful vocals make this a beautiful version of an already top notch song.

BONUS: Here's a great house mix of the original song, done by AN21 & Max Vangelis. Extra bass and the original melody, plus some great additions make this one is a definite keeper.

Make sure to listen to/buy the original over on iTunes; it's been one of my favorite songs of the past year.

Big Mistake - Tim Fite

Sometimes a song comes along at a time in your life where it just fits perfectly. This was one of those songs for me last year. Tim Fite is a singer-songwriter (I hate that term?) out of Brookyln who mixes indie, alternative, and some acoustic guitar with hip hop. Check out his newest album, Under the Table Tennis, for FREE. It's just right over here at his website: http://www.timfite.com/.

Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub) - Bon Iver

No  more long winded posts. No more long artist bios. Just a dope song and a few sentences. I'm working on redesigning the blog, so bear with me.

This song is a great version of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love". The original is powerful in its simplicity, and Das Kapital realizes this in its remix by adding in a very simple beat that doesn't over power the acoustic guitar or Vernon's voice.

Rocky Votolato

I was trying to think up an opening line for this post while searching for pictures of Votolato, when I came across this quote from a Spin Magazine article on him: "Votolato possesses the kind of voice that never-been-kissed teenage girls imagine their crushes might have in a perfect universe." Need I say much more? The man has a way of making you feel like he's singing directly to you and it makes his music all the more powerful. Since his 2006 album Makers (check it out, the entire thing is an amazing piece of work), he's taken a more folk-oriented path, with sparse arrangements which really accent his voice and guitar work. This is my first acoustic oriented post on the site, and hopefully I'll be getting some more work by artists like Votolato up here soon; for now, enjoy the sweet sounds of folk streaming from your speakers.
