Mixtape!: Big K.R.I.T. - Return of 4Eva

Well hot damn, Big K.R.I.T. just made my night. Krit Wuz Here was probably the best mixtape of the year last year (debate it in the comments if you disagree, or show some love!), and now the man himself has decided to release what was originally going to be a full album for free on his website. Big features from Ludacris, Bun B, David Banner & more. Gooooooo get it. #realhiphop

Update: As I'm listening, standout tracks are the two singles, "Dreamin'" and "American Rapstar", as well as "Another Naive Individual Glorifying Greed and Ecouraging Racism" [See what he did there?] and "Free My Soul".

Mixtape!: Chip Tha Ripper - Gift Raps

Brand spankin' new Chip that Rip for all you heads out there. The entire tape is produced by Chuck Inglish (except for a two tracks), and his signature deep bass pervades the entire thing. I think The Cleveland Show was better, but this is a solid effort. It dropped at midnight tonight (east coast time), and #GIFTRAPS is a trending topic on twitter right now, so expect big things from Chip and Chuck/The Cool Kids in 2011. They both have official albums dropping, and are getting mad hype from all over the place.

Friday Night Lights (Mixtape) - J. Cole

UPDATE:

Pick up the mixtape from J. Cole's official website.

I also deleted "Blow Up" as a downloadable track since it's not actually off this mixtape. I'd repost, but I'd get another DMCA notice. So go find it somewhere else, it's one of the best songs I've heard all year.

J. Cole has been absolutely killing it in 2010. Undoubtedly my favorite rapper right now, everything he touches turns to gold. He does most of his own production, and then lays amazing verses over it.

Here's a track from his newest mixtape (it took me forever to decide which one to put up; they're all so good):

In The Morning (Feat. Drake) - J. Cole

And here's the rest of the tape. I know you'll make the right decision and DL the whole thing:

Like Liquor For Punks (Mixtape) - Heartbeat Da Producer

This is a tape I discovered way back in the day. Haven't heard much else from Heartbeat Da Producer, but on Like Liquor For Punks, he does a great job. At first I was apprehensive, because although I love Daft Punk, Common, and Lupe, I wasn't sure if they'd sound good all mashed together. Heartbeat makes it work though; Common and Lupe's rhymes sound really good over Daft's instrumentals.

Get Right Radio : Summer 2010 Edition - Benzi

EMERGENCY POST: Stop what you're doing. Turn up your speakers. I had a post all ready to go for today until last night when I stumbled upon this mixtape. I've heard Benzi's mixes before, and they're always on point. This, however, goes above and beyond. It perfectly captures the hits of the summer, and the mixing is first class. This will be on repeat in my car for pretty much the rest of the summer.

COP NOW.

*This is the mix version, separated track version will drop tomorrow. The mixing is such a big part of what makes this tape though, I'd recommend this version.

Mick Boogie - Re-Living Thing (Mixtape)

Mick Boogie has long been well known in the blogosphere as a talented producer and mixtape guru, hosting tapes for everyone from Big Sean to Eminem. After Peter Bjorn & John released their 2009 album Living Thing, he took it upon himself to craft one of the best remix albums I've heard in awhile. The tape's production is pretty damn good, especially since I'm not a Peter Bjorn & John fan at all, but Boogie is able to use a lot of their original rhythms and melodies while making the songs sound fresh. The host of lyricists is also one of the albums strengths, made up of a number of rising stars including Donnis, Big Sean, Wale, and Fashawn. These two songs are my the best on the album in my opinion, especially "Stay This Way" which seamlessly incorporates the band's signature "oohs" and whistles into an awesome beat.

Free Gucci

Not such a big fan of Gucci Mane, but this mixtape is actually sort of cool. It includes some crazy remixes of some of Gucci's songs. From minimalist electronic bleeps and blips, to wild, pulsing electro beats, the mixtape offers very interesting takes on a pretty typical mainstream southern rap artist. Gucci's voice actually complements a fair amount of the production on most of these tracks, and while not every song is a banger, these two most certainly are. If you want the whole thing, you can nab it HERE.

Boi (Zomby Remix) - Gucci Mane / Mediafire (This song is fiiire)

Oh, and as a bonus, here's Gucci on a dope Drake track off his Thank Me Later Mixtape.
